Fiesta San Antonio
Task
Construct branding and a logo for a festival with a focus on typography.
Moodboards
The two concepts that came to my head for Fiesta had major differences but both had the potential to honor the citizens and the city of San Antonio itself. The ‘Fun and Vibrant’ direction played into the energy and excitement seen for Fiesta every year. Contrasting that, ‘Early Texas’ would have a quieter approach in design with more muted colors and digging into the history that Fiesta honors.
From the moldboards above, I came up with five initial poster designs for each concept showcasing a range of ideas form historic maps and icons to Otomi embroidery, traditional to Mexico.

Reflection
Once I began to move my sketches into digital drafts, I knew continuing in the direction of ‘Early Texas’ wouldn’t encapsulate the energy of San Antonio during Fiesta. Taking from my own memories of Fiesta, and the colors so often associated with San Antonio, I drew inspiration from papel picados. With Fiesta honoring the Battle of the Alamo, and the required focus of the poster and branding being typography, I began to build around those elements. I think the final design displays the passion and traditions that go hand in hand with Fiesta.
